Charles J. McEvily concentrates exclusively in the resolution of matrimonial disputes, using one of three methods: litigation, collaboration, or mediation.

Mr. McEvily has been admitted to practice law in New York since 1974. He is also admitted to practice in Federal Courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States.

He has been selected as a New York Times “Super-Lawyer” (top 5% in Matrimonial Law, N.Y. metro area) and is included in New York Magazine’s “Best Lawyers in America”. Mr. McEvily is a Fellow of the prestigious American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and is one of the few matrimonial mediators on Long Island to have received mediation certification by that Academy.

He serves on the court-approved divorce mediation panel of the Supreme Court of Nassau County. As a member of the New York Association of Collaborative Professionals, he has been trained in advanced interdisciplinary collaborative divorce. Mr. McEvily is included in Who’s Who in American Law and has been on the faculty of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy since 1981. He is a member of the Matrimonial and Family Law Committees of the Nassau County and New York State Bar Associations and served on the Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County. He is a founding Barrister and a current Master of the New York Family Law American Inn of Court, a group committed to enhancing the professional, academic and ethical qualities of legal advocacy in the field of matrimonial law. He has published in the American Bar Association’s Family Advocate Journal and the New York State Bar Association’s Family Law Review.

He is a member of the Board of Editors and a contributing author for The Matrimonial Strategist, a nationwide newsletter published by Incisive Media. Most recently, he published an article in the Matrimonial Strategist entitled “Interdisciplinary Collaborative Divorce - a Look at the Team”. He has lectured at the Bar Associations of New York, Rockland and Nassau County on the topic of equitable distribution. He has been a guest on radio and television programs, including the CBS program 60 Minutes. He has also lectured to the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (Forensic Services Committee) and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

While he has always concentrated his practice in the area of matrimonial law, between 1974 and 1979, he was a full-time special professor of law at Hofstra University School of Law, where, in addition to teaching domestic relations law, he was the executive director of all the clinical litigation programs. Mr. McEvily was the attorney on one of three cases selected by the Nassau County Bar Association as a Case of the Century.
