Our law firm practices in New York State and Connecticut with offices located in New York City, Scarsdale, New York and Stamford, Connecticut. Our focus is in three primary areas:

Matrimonial and Family Law

Individuals often require legal advice concerning the obligations and financial aspects of their relationships. Many clients are able to negotiate a resolution of matters with our professional assistance. We are prepared to vindicate our clients’ rights through trial when necessary. Contested Divorces

Preparation and Trial of contested divorces including -
* Equitable Distribution including division of property such as businesses, professional practices (medical, dental, legal etc.), licenses, degrees, retirement plans, executive compensation and real estate.
* Divorce: A New York divorce is granted on the basis of Cruel and Inhuman Treatment, Abandonment, Adultery, etc... Where a spouse does not agree to become divorced, a person seeking a divorce may need to establish her/his right to a divorce through trial.
* Child custody including child relocation, child support and parental visitation.
* Special economic situations such as undisclosed income and tax evasion and the valuation of businesses present special problems that we are prepared to address.
* Special psychological situations including alcoholism, addictions and mental illness.
* Domestic Violence to ensure safety, including the awarding of money damages for personal injury.
* Maintenance (NY)/Alimony (CT) for spousal support and the rehabilitation of the non-monied spouse’s income earning capacity including obtaining funds for re-education and training to increase income.
* Prenuptial and Postnuptial agreements, for purpose of defining legal responsibilities and protecting assets as for example in a second marriage.

Collaborative Law and Mediation Services

Mediation or Collaborative Law provide an alternative to the Court system suitable for some divorcing individuals. Marianne Hoffman graduated cum laude from Wellesley College and the University of Pennsylvania Law School. She is admitted to the New York State Bar and the Connecticut State Bar and she is partner of the firm. She is also admitted to United States District Courts for the District of Connecticut and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. She practices matrimonial and family law.

Ms. Hoffman served as law clerk to the Honorable William J. Lavery of the Appellate Court of the State of Connecticut. She then served in the General Counsel’s Office of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Commencing in 1997, she has been actively engaged in the private practice of law including as an associate with Kelley Drye & Warren LLP. She has a wide range of litigation experience in State and Federal Courts including arbitration, trials and appeals in anti-trust, securities, bankruptcy and commercial litigation.

Ms. Hoffman now limits her practice to matrimonial and family law, including divorce, child custody, prenuptial and post nuptial agreements, paternity and domestic violence representation.

She serves on the Board of Directors for the Wellesley-in-Westchester Alumnae and as a pro bono attorney for the Greenwich YWCA Domestic Violence Services and the Stamford/Greenwich LaLeche League. She was an adjunct professor in the legal studies department of Norwalk Community College.
