Michael Stutman brings more than thirty years of family law experience to representing his clients. Whether in settling disputes creatively or in effective presentation to a trial court, he is comfortable in either arena.

Michael is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and sits on the Board of Governors of the New York Chapter. AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell, Michael has been listed in the annual Super Lawyers publications since 2006 and is included in the Best Lawyers in America publication.

Michael is an author of How to Divorce in New York (St. Martin’s Press). He has had numerous articles in publications including the New York Law Journal, Family Law Quarterly and the East Hampton Star. Michael is a featured speaker for Lawline CLE and has been the chair and/or speaker at many CLE programs sponsored by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the City Bar and the New York State Bar Association. He has been a mentor and trainer for inMotion since 1997 and is a recipient of their Commitment to Justice Award.

Michael was recently lead counsel in Desilva v. Desilva, in which a wife received 100% of marital property and Moore v. Moore, in which his client’s personal injury claim against her husband and her right to use captured computer files were upheld.

He is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, having previously served two three-year terms on the Matrimonial Law Committee. He recently began a three-year term on the Trusts, Estates and Surrogates Court Committee. He is also a member of and in the Family Law sections of both the New York State Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

Michael has a J.D. from the University of Tulsa and a B.A. from Knox College. He is admitted to practice in New York and is also admitted to the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York. Michael is an avid off-shore sailor, having participated in virtually all major regattas held between New York and Martha’s Vineyard. He has sailed in eight Newport to Bermuda races, and was on the vessel which won its division in 1998.

Michael and his wife, Dana, who is also a partner at the firm, live on the Lower East Side with their two small children and are joined frequently by the two teenagers of Michael’s former marriage.
