Considered the dean of his profession, Norman is among the most well-respected and prominent lawyers in the field. Norman has been practicing law for more than 50 years since his graduation from Harvard Law School in 1953. His skill as a trial lawyer is legendary and he has served as lead counsel in some of the largest equitable distribution cases ever to come to trial.

Norman is a past President of the New York Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and was the Chairman of its Ethics and Supreme Court Committees. He was a founder and Governor of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and former Treasurer of its U.S. chapter. He is a founding member of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers.

For many years Norman was an Adjunct Associate Professor at New York Law School. He has lectured under the auspices of the New York Law Journal, the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the American Bar Association and the National Organization of Women as well as at various law schools throughout the country. He is the co-author of the best-selling book Uncoupling, A Guide to Sane Divorce and author of On Trial, a portrait of the best trial lawyers in the country. Norman is also the author of countless articles and book chapters on matrimonial law and litigation.

Norman is married to Elaine Lewis, an actress, meteorologist and President of Courtroom Communications, LLC. His daughter, Brooke, is a clinical psychologist in Florida.
