Willard H. DaSilva is a nationally recognized matrimonial attorney and a Charter Diplomate of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers, which recognizes the best 100 family law trial attorneys in the United States. He is one of only 1,396 attorneys who have been listed in all editions of The Best Lawyers in America since its first publication in 1983. His biography appears in Who’s Who in America, and he is listed annually in New York Magazine as one of “The New York Area’s Best Lawyers” and in the New York Times “Super Lawyers”.

He is Past President of the prestigious American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers New York Chapter, and is currently editor-in-chief of the American Bar Association Family Advocate Magazine; he serves with Judith S. Kaye, former Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals, as an editor of the New York State Bar Journal and is Chairman of the Board of Editors of the nationally published The Matrimonial Strategist. His book, New York Matrimonial Practice, published by the West Group is considered a “bible” for attorneys who handle family law cases. He is a Council Member of the American Bar Association Section of Family Law and a Master of the New York Family Law American Inn of Court. His prolific lecturing schedule to judges and lawyers includes seminars sponsored by bar associations and civic organizations throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.

Attorney DaSilva, a magna cum laude graduate of New York University and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, received his law degree from Columbia University Law School, where he currently serves as a moot court judge. He is a widely quoted commentator in the New York Times, Newsday, USA Today, Newsweek and other publications, including the New York Law Journal, which referred to him as the “Dean of Matrimonial Attorneys”. He has appeared in both network and nationally syndicated television and radio programs throughout the United States and Canada.

His O’Brien case in the New York Court of Appeals has made legal history and is now reported to be the most frequently cited case in New York. His legal creativity is also evidenced by his having the first case nationwide to establish the presence of second-hand smoke as a factor in determining child custody.
