Jose Maria worked with the firm of Hodgson Russ, LLP in Buffalo, NY. He also worked at the legal department of Viacom International and was an intern with the trademark department of Colgate Palmolive Company in New York City.

Jose Maria's legal experience in Spain includes being a senior associate with the international litigation, corporate, intellectual property and technology departments of Lupicinio Eversheds in Madrid (formerly Denton Lupicinio).

Jose Maria was an intern for the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) delegation at the United Nations in New York, and served as Judicial Intern for Honorable Shira A. Scheindlin, US District Court Judge for the Southern District of New York.
