Stewart Casper primarily handles personal injury claims relating to car accidents, medical malpractice, nursing home abuse, defective products, premises liability and workers' compensation. He also handles bad faith claims against insurance companies.
Stewart Casper was admitted to the Connecticut Bar in 1978. He is admitted to practice before the Federal District Court for the District of Connecticut and the Southern District of New York, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, the State Courts of New York, and the United States Supreme Court.
He has continuously played an active role in advocating legislative policy and in dealing with the rights of victims of medical errors, nursing home abuse, insurance company malfeasance and accidents in the State of Connecticut and throughout the nation. Stewart Casper has testified before legislative committees. He has lectured extensively on these issues, as well as on many issues of substantive law and trial preparation. Mr. Casper has also served as a Special Master in the U.S. District Court and in the State Superior Court.
Stewart Casper has been a member of the Board of Governors of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association (CTLA) since 1987. He was the President of the CTLA from 1996-1997. In connection with these responsibilities, he serves on CTLA's, Legislative, Automobile Insurance (Chairperson), Amicus Curiae, Medical Malpractice, Public Relations, and Fund Raising committees. He has also served on every Executive Committee of CTLA since 1990. He is one of three founding officers of the CTLA Civil Justice Foundation. He is a former member of the Motor Vehicle Automobile Insurance Coordination Committee and the Insurance Oversight Committee (Co-Chairperson) of The Association of Trial Lawyers of America (now the American Association for Justice, or "AAJ"). From 1999-2006 he was one of two State Delegates from Connecticut to AAJ. In 2006 he was elected to serve on the Board of Governors of AAJ and he presently serves on AAJ's Public Affairs Committee and National Finance Committee. In 2008, he was designated a co-chairperson of a working subcommittee of AAJ’s Public Affairs Committee charged with making recommendations to deal with ERISA subrogation and Medicare Set-Aside issues. He is a member of AAJ Professional Liability Section and he is currently the Chairman-Elect of AAJ's Traumatic Brain Injury Litigation Group. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the "Traumatic Brain Injury Litigation Group Newsletter." He is a member of the Brain Injury Association of Connecticut, the Brain Injury Association of America, the American Board of Trial Advocates and the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America (See Client Testimonials) for both "Personal Injury" and "Workers' Compensation" law and he is certified as a Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.
In 2006, he was recognized in "Connecticut Magazine" for being a "Super Lawyer" in its inaugural listing and he has retained that designation since and in January 2007 he was listed as one of the top 500 lawyers in the nation who represent Plaintiffs with the publication of the "Lawdragon 500 Leading Plaintiffs' Lawyers in America."
Community and Pro Bono Services
Stewart devotes substantial time and energy to discussing public policy and translating those ideas into proposed legislation at the state and national level with a focus on 1) making our system of justice more equitable; and 2) to balance the playing field between insurance companies and big business and injured people. In addition, he volunteered for no fee to represent victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 as part of "Trial Lawyers Care, Inc." He is also a fundraiser for the American Heart Association and he volunteers time each week serving as a Mentor for a local youth through the Norwalk Family and Children's Agency.
